CLAIM: ZEC is recruiting staff for coming General Election.
SOURCE: WhatsApp Groups
VERDICT: False
Zimbabwe has of late seen an increase in job offer scams. Targeted organisations include the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.
In an environment where people are looking for jobs, people tend to share widely any job opportunity, especially from well known organisations.
The scammers use the right logos and seemingly legit website addresses. However, there are clues that one can look out for to check the legitimacy of such posts.

What to look out for
- Urgent tones – the scammers will give an impression that their site is popular and those yet to make use of it are running out of time. In this case, it says already 5 929 applicants have applied against only 205 vacancies available.
- Misspellings and poor grammar
- A redirect bringing you to a page with “http://” in the URL
- Poorly written job descriptions
- Lack of company information or suspicious company website
- False engagement

Online scam prevention tips
- Only apply to positions posted on reputable job sites.
- Go directly to the company’s official website If you’re unsure whether an email is legitimate or not.
Conclusion
The ZEC recruitment link being circulated on WhatsApp groups is fake.
