A social media user asked FactCheckZW to check if there is any truth in reports that ‘any US dollar notes below year 2021 will not be acceptable from January 2023’.
The user shared a link to the story.
The same claim was shared more 100 times on Facebook here, here and here.
A quick check on Twitter also showed that it had been posted and retweeted by a number of users here, here and here.
The accounts had users ranging from 220 to 4600 followers.
It’s not the first time that reports have circulated that certain USD notes will cease to be legal tender.
According to the Federal Reserve website, all U.S. currency remains legal tender, regardless of when it was issued.
