Is this a National Youth Empowerment Fund (NYEF) advert? NO, it’s a scam.

CLAIM: National Youth Empowerment Fund Application Form 2022 Is Out.

SOURCE: Whatsapp

VERDICT: False

A circulation purporting to be from the National Youth Empowerment Fund (NYEF) claiming that the organisation is giving out funds is a scam.

The message has been forwarded numerous times on WhatsApp leading to much confusion especially among the youths.

Once one clicks to the link https://lyulink.com/PYESFOUNDATION-2022, it directs them straight to the “Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme) and not the NYEF as mentioned in the message. The Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme also does not mention the name of the country of the President supplying the funds. However, prominent on the page are Uganda and South African flags.

Other red flags on the page are:

  • No particulars – If it’s a Scheme from a government,  it would state the Ministry responsible and also the currency of funds provided as well as the bank which handles the loan applications.
  • Absence of contact details.
  • Grammar: There are too many grammatical errors.
  • Conditions: Also some of the conditions for one’s application to be approved is for them to forward the message to 15 contacts on your WhatsApp contact list as well as five WhatsApp groups, which is very unlikely or Government schemes.

CONCLUSION: A circulation claiming to be that of National Youth Empowerment Fund is fake. It’s similar to those used by hackers in order to scam people; collect certain data or it may just be disinformation meant to harm certain organisations or groups of people.
