No,  the University of Zimbabwe is not offering free online courses

CLAIM: The University of Zimbabwe if offering free online courses

SOURCE: Facebook

VERDICT: False, a circulation sent by a Facebook page is a scam.

A Facebook page by the name of CICI Merchandise Store on January 27 sent a post on the platform encouraging people to apply for free online courses offered by the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).

They have since deleted the post which has since gone viral where they claimed UZ is offering “free courses, free certification” where one will “get university certification in one month’. They also claimed the courses cater for people between the ages of 20 and 55 plus years.

How to apply for a course at the University of Zimbabwe?

According to the UZ website, those wishing to apply for a course at the university can click here and successful applicants will be advised through the website, Facebook, the media (press), SMS text and through an address provided by the applicant. Applicants are also encouraged to apply physically and submit handwritten forms to the university’s administration office.

Red flags

  • The University does NOT offer free courses.
  • The post has since been deleted.
  • The page only has 198 followers and 163 likes.
  • Since 2023 they have posted just two houses in their page and they have three posts only.

Conclusion

The University of Zimbabwe is not offering any free online courses. The State University does not offer any free courses at all and there is a set procedure if one wants to apply for a course there
