CLAIM: Binga school collapses

An account on X, @shepherdyuda, has claimed that a video that has been circulating on social media is of a school in Binga, a district in the western part of Zimbabwe.
The video shows rescue efforts to get school children from underneath a grass thatched building that has collapsed.
The post reads, ‘Binga School Collapses @nickmangwana and @edmnangagwa’.
The account posted the video at 0240 hrs on 19 January 2024.
However, a search for the video shows it being posted as early as Tuesday 16 January on Facebook with the caption, ‘A government school in Tororo #Uganda’.
Another Facebook post here, also claims that this is a school in Uganda.
On Thursday, however, 2 posts on Facebook claimed that this was an incident from the Democratic Republic of Congo, here and here.
Apart from the videos having been posted as schools in other countries, the language being spoken is not one of those spoken in Binga – Tonga, Nambya or Ndebele.
Conclusion
The claim that a video showing a collapsed building is of a Binga school has been rated as false. Other posts and the language being spoken show that this did not happen in Zimbabwe.
