Of Elon Musk and ‘his’ AI generated ‘robot wives’

Fancy a soulless wife? Or is it one that doesn’t talk back?

Maybe, you do not want to deal with those all too human mood swings. Or you have had enough of heartbreaks already.

How much would you be willing to pay for a robot wife? USD3000 as this Twitter user claims here? Or USD3150 reported here?

Not so fast. No need to open the robot wife savings account yet.

All the reports about Elon Musk creating a robot wife here, here and here are false.

Social media platforms have been awash with pictures of Elon Musk kissing various ‘robot wives’. Despite fact checking platforms debunking these claims, some citizens in Zimbabwe continue to believe the stories and are sharing the messages.

Unfortunately, pictures do lie

The pictures went viral after female robots in various images were posted by Daniel Marven, a Twitter user with almost one million followers.

In the post, Marven wrote that Musk had announced his “future wife” who had been “designed with artificial intelligence.” He then went on to clarify that the purpose of sharing these pictures is to flag the risks associated with AI and that the images were NOT real.

Fast Company reported that the images were actually created by a digital creator who owns the @art_is_2_inspire Instagram account. The account also previously made the viral AI-generated images of Pope Francis wearing a Balenciaga coat.

In a fact check article, PolitiFact reports that it reached out to the @art_is_2_inspire account, its owner, who identified as Pablo Xavier sent screenshots of prompts used to create the images.

Conclusion

For those who want a robot wife, however, the struggle continues. The images of Elon Musk kissing ‘robot wives’ were AI generated by Pablo Xavier, and Elon Musk’s Tesla has not announced any plans to create robot wives. Yet.
