ZIMRA job advert is a scam

CLAIM: The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has begin (sic) its 2023/2024 staff recruitment.

SOURCE: WhatsApp

VERDICT: False

A WhatsApp message with a link  purporting to be a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority advert has been circulating in recent days.

The message is fake, and ZIMRA chairperson, Francis Chimanda has confirmed that the advert and link are a hoax.

He said members of the public should note that ZIMRA always uses formal ways of advertising their vacant posts.

“It’s not true that we are hiring, we advertise our things on official platforms plus newspapers,” he said.

ZIMRA also posted on their Facebook page dismissing the advert.

“The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) wishes to advise clients and members of the public that an unusually large number of vacancies or job opportunities at ZIMRA have gone viral on Facebook and other social media platforms.

These job adverts are false. All official vacancies are advertised officially in the press or on all official online sites. Any inconvenience caused is regretted sincerely,” reads the statement.

When one clicks on the link, depending on the gadget, it may lead one to a page carrying a warning that they are about to access an unsafe site.

If one ignores the warning, they will be led to a website with job vacancies exceeding 20 000, ranging from supervisors to data managers.

It also requires one to send the link to a certain number of WhatsApp groups and individuals for the  application to be taken into consideration.

All these are signs of fake websites and scams.

Also watch out for bad grammar and wrong spellings on adverts. Check if the numbers being talked about are excessive or if the packages offered are too good to be true. If still unsure whether it’s a hoax or not, check the organisation’s website and official social media pages. Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is because it is not true.

CONCLUSION: The advert claiming to be from ZIMRA is a hoax and potentially, a scam. ZIMRA did not issue any such advert and when they do advertise, they only do so on their website, mainstream media and official social media pages.
